Description
TThis is an Enfield No. 1 Mk. III, a British service rifle which has seen seen service around the globe. These rifles were in use by the British and the British protectorates through WWII. This particular example bears proof marks indicating that it was originally manufactured in India, at the British arsenal in Ishapore. (The bolt through the stock in front of the magazine is called an “ISHY” screw and is exclusive to rifles made in or repaired at the Ishapore Arsenal.) It is also stamped “FR43”, which denotes that it has undergone a Factory Repair in 1943, in which it was refurbished to acceptable military standards. There is a stamp on the buttstock (which appears to be the SA w/ arrow), identifies this as a "Post Independence" rifle which was in service in India after Britain granted independence. The stock on this rifle is evidently the original, however it has been “sporterized” at some point, and general condition of this piece of history is, unfortunately, somewhat poor.
Overall condition of this firearm, based on Blue Book of Gun Values guidelines, is 30%.
