Support the NRA and Protect Your 2nd Amendment Freedom in 2016
with this SPRINGFIELD 1873 TRAPDOOR CARBINE
The Trapdoor Springfield was the first standard-issue breech-loading rifle adopted by the United States Army. The rifle, in both full-length and carbine versions, was widely used in subsequent battles against the American Indians. The Model 1873 was the fifth variation of the trapdoor design, and was named for its hinged breechblock, (which opened like a trapdoor). It is a breech-loading, single shot rifle, chambered for the massive 45-70 Gov’t cartridge. This rifle was saw service most notable in the Indian Wars, the Spanish–American War, and the Philippine–American War. The black powder model 1873 continued to be the main service rifle of the U.S. Military until it was gradually replaced by the Springfield model 1892 bolt-action rifle (based on the Norwegian Krag-Jørgensen action). With the exception of a few noticeable dings and scratches on the stock, this particular rifle is in quite good condition, with the numerous proofmarks and cartouches remaining legible.
Overall condition, as per Blue book of Gun Values guidelines, is 60%.
